About
Comrade was adopted in 2016. He and his brother were found on the side of the road outside of Nebraska City. Comrade loves going for walks and playing fetch! You could throw pretty much anything in the backyard for him to play with but we’ll leave some things on the table.
Commands
Comrade is trained to use the following commands:
- “Sit” — sit down
- “Wait” — stay put, don’t move
- “Okay” — use this after “wait” to let Comrade know he can do whatever he was waiting to do, like eat his food
- “Drop” — release what’s in his mouth, e.g. a toy (this one usually needs repeated multiple times)
- “Off” or “Get down” — get off or down from wherever he is
Helpful commands for when you’re on a walk:
- “Don’t pull” — give Comrade’s leash a tug or stop walking when you say this to reinforce
- “Walk with me” — if he’s getting too far ahead of you, say this to remind him to walk next to you
- “Wait” — use this when crossing the street to remind Comrade to stay put; follow with “Okay” to let him know it’s time to cross
- “Leave it” — whatever has his attention, leave it alone
- “Come on” — if Comrade is sniffing something for too long, say this and resume walking so he follows (this one may need repeated)
Feeding
Comrade gets one pack of his food from the refrigerator twice per day with an extra half scoop of dry kibble on top.
